John Mburu

Prof. John Mburu is an Agricultural and Resource Economist and a Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Nairobi, Kenya. Since August 2023, he has also been serving as a Short-Term Consultant (STC) at the World Bank, Kenya County Office. He holds a Ph.D and Masters degree in Agricultural Economics from University of Goettingen, Germany, following a first degree in Bsc in Agriculture from University of Nairobi. Over the last 25 years, Prof. Mburu has gained useful expertise in applying the concepts of cost-benefit analysis, New Institutional Economics (NIE) and Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (SLF) in applied research on trade, agriculture and management of natural resources. He has published widely on agricultural value chains and environment, including on postharvest loss-reduction technologies, economics of utilization and management of forests, wildlife and agro-biodiversity in developing countries. He is a member of the Africa Society for Ecological Economics, African Association of Agricultural Economists and the International Association for the Study of Commons.
